The Whitfords are a husband and wife duo who have been playing music together since the 1960's.  With dazzling instrumental work and tight harmonies, they take listeners back to a time when the music folks listened to came from the kitchen, the church, the dance hall, or a floor model Philco radio.

This is toe-tappin', sing-along music --no mistaking it!!

Let the Whitfords take you back ...to a time when everything, including music, was less cluttered and more genuine.  A time when music, like many other things in life, was largely self-made.  The Whitfords perform vintage country music, covering a wide range of American rural styles.

While they play in Michigan and the Midwest most of the year, each winter The Whitfords head for warmer areas.  From January through April you can hear them on their musical tour of Texas, New Mexico, Missouri and Oklahoma, often with a House Concert stop in Champaign, Illinois.

Reviews --

"For the past 5 years, The Whitfords have performed at the Otto-Shenk House Concert, stopping on their way back from Big Bend, Texas, where they perform six days a week at their favorite haunt, the Hallie Stillwell Hall of Fame Museum, just outside of Big Bend National Park.  At the concert, Eldon played Gibson acoustic guitars and Ann played the upright bass, one that is bigger than she is.  Eldon is a most excellent guitarist; versatile with a nice dynamic range."                                                             Melissa Merlie, Arts Writer, The News Gazette in Champaign-Urbana, IL

"Everyone had a great time at the 2009  Winter Texan  Expo,  especially when The Whitfords hit the stage. If you love vintage country music, you will love The Whitfords!"                      Holly Smith, Winter Texan Expo

"While their covers of well-known recordings show a passionate reverence for the country/folk traditions, The Whitfords always put their own mark on their songs, making them uniquely their own."            David Vinopal, Author/Music Historian

Eldon and Ann with John Warstler

In addition to their two person musical team, Eldon and Ann perform with two other bands:

  • Low Road Ramblers, featuring John Warstler on guitar and claw hammer banjo, and Dave Eggebrecht on fiddle and mandolin.   Anyone familiar with the best traditional bands in Michigan over the past 35 years will have heard these outstanding musicians from a long list of favorite bands.

  • Keepin' It Country, playing 50's and 60's honky tonk, a four and sometimes five piece band, often referred to affectionately by fans as KIC.
